Toy Story Land – 3rd Anniversary

This week we are talking all about one of our favorite lands in Walt Disney World, and in celebration of it’s 3rd anniversary, let’s honor Toy Story Land.

Before we dive into the fun, let’s talk about our MousekeCocktail.

MousekeCocktail

Toy Story Land is such a bright, fun area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The whole ambience and decor invites guests to be a kid. So of course, we need to choose a beverage that is the perfect grown-up twist on the childlike lemonade. Woody’s Lunchbox, the Grown-Ups’ Lemonade is the perfect mousekecocktail! Cherry vodka, lemonade and black cherry puree. This one is dangerous and goes down EASY.

Grownup Lemonade
History

Opened June 30, 2018. The area is designed to “shrink the guest” down to being the size of a toy, and to play in Andy’s Backyard with his toys. It had to do this through using highly immersive theming, using bamboo to act as giant blades of grass surrounding the area, the use of many themed props and characters from the Toy Story films such as a giant Buzz Lightyear, a giant Rex, an oversized paper plane and a large ball from the first Pixar short, Luxo Jr. The area also features numerous photo opportunities. This land is roughly 11 acres and features three attractions, including a new entrance for the expanded Toy Story Mania!

Attractions

Toy Story Mania- a shooting dark ride where riders try to score points by hitting targets with a variety of objects inside a carnival-themed playset. The attraction’s entrance was originally located in Pixar Place when the ride opened in 2008, but was moved to Toy Story Land with a new entrance on the land’s opening day. This attraction has no height requirements and is an exciting and adorable ride for the whole family.

Slinky Dog Dash- a family-friendly roller coaster where riders are sent flying through Andy’s backyard inside of a giant Slinky Dog. The coaster features two launches and an animatronic Wheezy, who serenades riders as their coaster enters the loading area. This attraction has a minimum height requirement of 38 inches.

Alien Swirling Saucers- a flat ride themed around Buzz Lightyear where riders are whipped around a toy playset of outer space in a vehicle driven by one of Buzz’s little green aliens. This ride uses similar ride mechanics as Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree in Cars Land and Woody’s Round-Up in Shanghai Disneyland’s version of Toy Story Land. There is a 32 inch minimum height requirement.

Characters

Green Army Men- Green Army Men play cadences on a snare drum, bass drum, and tenor drums. They invite guests to partake in various boot camp drills, games, and chants; making them honorary Green Army Men.

Also, of course your favorite friendly toys are there to greet you! Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, and Bo Peep!

Food

Woody’s Lunch Box- A counter-service restaurant which looks like an old-fashioned lunch box pushed up against a picture book about “Woody’s Roundup,” a fictional TV show seen in Toy Story 2. The restaurant is sponsored by Babybel. Must-eats at this venue are (for breakfast) Chocolate-Hazelnut Lunch Box Tart and the classic pop tart! Chocolate-Hazelnut stuffed Pastry coated in Maple Fondant and Candied Bacon.

Or (for lunch and dinner) “Totchos” – Potato Barrels coated with Beef and Bean Chili, Shredded Cheese and signature Queso with Tomatoes and Corn Chips finished with Sour Cream and a sprinkle of Green Onions.

What’s Coming up!

Woody’s Roundup Rodeo BBQ- It was announced in 2019 that a table-service Toy Story-themed restaurant will be built with an opening date of 2020. This has obviously been delayed due to COVID, but construction continues so this restaurant is definitely in the works. No details have been released yet.  Here’s the back story: Using three cardboard boxes cut and taped together, Andy has created a new rodeo arena using some of his favorite toys, games, and play sets. And while some pieces are definitely western-themed, what makes this rodeo special is the broad assortment of toys that have been brought together to create a fun, colorful mashup-atmosphere that only a child could create.

Once inside, you’ll be surrounded by all of the rodeo festivities in-action as well as western town and train station play sets. And you just might spot some of your favorite Disney•Pixar characters scattered throughout the restaurant in the form of toys and game pieces including a toy version of Jessie riding on the back of a Trixie pull-toy and unique toy versions of Bo Peep and her sheep, all of whom appear to be performing in the rodeo together.

This immersive restaurant will surround guests with a kaleidoscope of toys, games, and playsets, providing yet another unique, fun, family-friendly dining experience that could only be had in Toy Story Land.  No word on whether or not this will be a character dining experience.
